Jack of all trades... my main passion is mapping and ecosystem based planning. My job involves a mosaic of interesting activities - completing management plans, ecosystem mapping and inventory, ecological restoration projects, species at risk recovery, monitoring projects and studies, environmental education for youth and mentoring university interns. I also enjoy developing new projects and budgets, and with a little less enthusiasm writing the applications, managing their progress and completing the reports.
I share my love and passion for nature with kids by leading them into Galiano's beautiful outdoor classrooms. I am nurtured and rewarded by each child's discoveries. I spend time fundraising to allow for these children's experiences in nature. I also lead nature programming for seniors, have a passion for performing puppet shows and love sharing my knowledge of the medicinal and culinary uses of native plants.
How to describe my job - mostly I play outside! Whether it is children, youth or adults that join me on Galiano for a nature outing, I incorporate as much science disguised as fun as possible. I share my passion while exploring , hiking, and turning over rocks to find the little gems of life. Also, I grow plants and manage the Galiano Conservancy Native Plant Nursery.
My job is to help make the Conservancy's latest project come to fruition: the Galiano Restorative Learning Centre. I'm excited to share with the Conservancy my long-held passion and experience in developing and facilitating unique multi-day outdoor education programs. I enjoy creating life-changing experiences for youth, and love to keep in touch with my "alumni," many of whom have dedicated their futures to being active in the outdoors and fostering stewardship among others, winning environmental leadership awards and working in cutting edge green jobs across the country. I look forward to expanding our education and restoration work through incorporating social enterprise principles into our fundraising and project management model.
I have a great love for the outdoors and I am fascinated by the inner workings of nature. As the Biologist Intern my main focus will be monitoring and documenting Species at Risk. I aim to engage the community in educational opportunities on Species at Risk. I am also a certified Yoga Instructor. I look forward to helping to bridge the gaps between community health, environmental stewardship and ecological knowledge.
An upaid volunteer, Linda, has spent many hours a week accumulating and cataloguing a very impressive resource library which is available to the public. On his retirement Herb Hammond generously donated his library to be merged with the Conservancy's.

Foreign Students Interns
Over the years we have had many student interns from Europe who must do a practical internship before completing their degree. They have undertaken many projects which have benefited Galiano. They volunteer their time and our only requirement is to provide accommodation while they are here. Anyone willing and with space available is encouraged to contact the Galiano Conservancy at conservancy@galianoconservancy.ca
